The Golden State Warriors might go through a bit of an overhaul this offseason.
General manager Mike Dunleavy Jr. will be active in his pursuit of another star to pair with Stephen Curry, though that might come at the expense of one of his current stars.
Given the salary cap, the Warriors might have to choose between Draymond Green and Jimmy Butler to acquire another All-Star-caliber player.
And, with Butler nursing an ACL injury and not being there for long, he might be the odd man out. Talking to ESPN's Anthony Slater, he expressed his desire to stay.
“This is where I want to be done. Retire here,” Butler told Slater. “It just sucks because we ain’t never really been healthy together... part of winning is being healthy. You ain’t seen us healthy at the end in the playoffs when it matters.”
Butler called the Warriors the best organization he's been a part of. He hasn't been there for long, but after stints with the Chicago Bulls, Minnesota Timberwolves, Philadelphia 76ers and Miami Heat, that's definitely notable.
For now, he can only focus on what he can control, which is his recovery and getting back to full strength. He hasn't been cleared to run yet, but he's optimistic about an early-season return.
“I mean, hell, I hope it’s early season,” Butler said. “I want to play as many games as I can while I can alongside Steph and Draymond Green. That was the reason that Joe and them brought me here.”
Butler has averaged 19.1 points, 5.5 rebounds and 5.3 assists in 68 games since joining Steve Kerr's team, and his ability to guard multiple positions and create his own shot has been paramount.
