Who advanced to the second round of NASCAR's In-Season Challenge

The first race of NASCAR's In-Season Challenge took place Sunday at Sonoma Raceway. Here's who advanced to the second round at Chicagoland.

(1) Tyler Reddick vs. (32) Alex Bowman

Bowman advanced after Reddick's No. 45 had power-steering issues early in the race. It's the second straight year the No. 1 seed was eliminated in the first round.

(2) Denny Hamlin vs. (31) Ty Dillon

This looked to be another huge upset after Hamlin spun early in Stage 3, but power steering issues for Dillon allowed Hamlin to sneak by on the closing laps and advance.

(3) Ryan Blaney vs. (30) Josh Berry

Blaney ran up front all afternoon and finished sixth, which was more than enough to advance over Berry, who spun and finished 28th.

(4) Chase Elliott vs. (29) Noah Gragson

Neither driver had a particularly good day, but Elliott's 17th-place finish easily knocked out Gragson, who finished 32nd.

(5) Ty Gibbs vs. (28) Austin Dillon

Gibbs easily advanced with a third-place finish while Dillon finished 27th after a pit road speeding penalty.

(6) Kyle Larson vs. (27) Riley Herbst

Larson finished fourth, easily knocking out Herbst, who went through the grass early and finished 30th.

(7) Chris Buescher vs. (26) John Hunter Nemechek

Buescher was surprisingly a non-factor on Sunday but advanced with a 19th-place finish over Nemechek's 25th-place result.

(8) Daniel Suarez vs. (25) Todd Gilliland

This was a major upset, as Gilliland's 29th-place finish was enough to bump out Suarez, who finished 31st.

(9) Carson Hocevar vs. (24) Zane Smith

Hocevar ruffled some feathers on Sunday but finished 11th to Smith's 18th, knocking Smith out of the Challenge.

(10) Christopher Bell vs. (23) Ross Chastain

Bell drove to fifth despite a broken wrist, eliminating Chastain, who finished 14th.

(11) William Byron vs. (22) Ricky Stenhouse Jr.

Byron fell out of the top 10 in the closing laps, but his 12th-place effort was still enough to eliminate Stenhouse, who finished 21st.

(12) Chase Briscoe vs. AJ Allmendinger

Briscoe's runner-up moves him on to Chicagoland after Allmendinger faded to 16th.

(13) Bubba Wallace vs. (20) Michael McDowell

Wallace ran up front early but was knocked out after finishing 22nd. McDowell clawed his way to a ninth-place finish.

(14) Shane van Gisbergen vs (19) Ryan Preece

In an unfortunate matchup for Preece, he was eliminated after van Gisbergen won the race. Preece did, however, finish a solid eighth.

(15) Erik Jones vs. (18) Joey Logano

Neither driver ran well on Sunday, but Jones beat Logano by one spot (23rd over 24th) to advance.

(16) Austin Cindric vs. (17) Brad Keselowski

Cindric advanced after finishing 13th, though Keselowski finished 15th and put up a fight.
