NFL fans are pumped for the new season, which is just over two months away. The New York Giants have an especially exciting season ahead, because 2026 marks their first year with new head coach John Harbaugh.
Anybody who's followed Harbaugh knows that he's all about winning. His record with the Baltimore Ravens was 193-124 over 18 seasons. He also scored them a championship at Super Bowl XLVII. Not many coaches have those kinds of bragging rights.
But, nobody is perfect, and Harbaugh and the Giants are being called out for one "overpay" during the offseason that could come back to bite them.
In a piece for ESPN, Seth Walder calls out the team for an "overpay" they made. He doesn't like the team signing linebacker Tremaine Edmunds.
"The team re-signed Jermaine Eluemunor to keep consistency at right tackle and brought in DT DJ Reader (to fill the hole left by Lawrence), CB Greg Newsome II and Edmunds — the last of whom was an overpay at three years, $36 million."
It's certainly the case that $36 million is a lot of bag for Edmunds. This probably wasn't the best deal. But, it's overshadowed by some of the better moves that this team made, such as securing rookie Arvell Reese and having guys like Brian Burns and Abdul Carter ready to rock. So, in the long run, this shouldn't be an earth-shattering decision. But, it means the Giants have a little less money to play with heading into the new season.
