Browns' Shedeur Sanders, Deshaun Watson QB competition dubbed a 'problem'

Things are getting interesting for the Cleveland Browns as they juggle between quarterbacks Shedeur Sanders and Deshaun Watson this offseason.

The Browns, of course, famously selected Sanders during the fifth round of the NFL draft with the No. 144 overall pick. There was a time when Sanders was expected to go inside the top five in the draft, so seeing him finally selected at No. 144 caused quite a media frenzy. The media has been following his story ever since.

But, is the Sanders and Watson competition a good or bad thing for the Browns? It may not be ideal.

Browns may have a problem on their hands with the Shedeur Sanders, Deshaun Watson situation

In a piece for CBS Sports, Carter Bahns calls the Sanders and Watson situation a "problem" and writes that the "Browns still have a quarterback problem."

"The Cleveland Browns will trot out either Deshaun Watson or Shedeur Sanders with their No. 1 offense come September, and it is hard to envision the one who finds himself on the bench being content with the outcome of their competition," he states.

Bahns adds that Watson "holds arguably the worst contract in football" and Sanders "posted the league's 49th-highest passer rating (minimum 14 attempts) across eight appearances as a rookie and has a massive lens on himself, as well."

So, he believes the Browns have a negative situation at quarterback, even though they still have a young, promising roster of talent. The team obviously has to figure out its signal-caller situation soon and perhaps look to the 2027 draft if it wants to succeed in the long and short term.
