One team is reportedly strongly pursuing Jonathan Kuminga, but there are questions about whether they have the financial flexibility to pull off such a move.
The Lakers are in active pursuit of Kuminga, but have not presented the forward with an enticing enough contract offer, according to Anthony Slater of ESPN. The Lakers were quick to register their interest in Kuminga, but then made a series of other moves that diminished their financial flexibility.
The Lakers continue to try and recruit Kuminga, and coach JJ Redick suggested he would be used as a high-minutes wing next to Luka Doncic. Kuminga and his camp are interested, but think they can get a better deal than what is currently being offered.
Kuminga would be an intriguing add for the Lakers if they were able to get it done. At least two other teams have shown interest, but the Lakers may be able to offer him a more substantial role and a chance to play for a successful team in a way that other teams cannot.
In 16 games with the Atlanta Hawks, Kuminga averaged 12.3 points and 5.3 rebounds per game, and looked solid, though not necessarily a superstar. The Lakers may be a perfect fit for a player of that caliber.
