Kylian Mbappe furious with ref after missing first career World Cup penalty

As Kylian Mbappe was  leading France past Morocco in the quarterfinals on Thursday night, the star had a chance to get a goal on the board.

As Mbappe looks to make his mark on the Golden Boot race, he had an opportunity to connect on a penalty kick, though it went south.

As Mbappe had a chance at a penalty kick in the 28th minute, it would take a while before he attempted the shot, as the officiating crew was reviewing on VAR.

After getting his kick blocked, Mbappe would be seen visibly furious with the referees.

What was seen as a mistake by Morocco in fouling Mbappe in the box that led to the penalty turned out to be a good foul, since it led to the missed penalty kick. However, one could imagine that it wasn’t the plan to make Mbappe shoot a penalty kick, especially since he hadn’t missed one until that point.

Mbappe led France into the semifinals, but an impressive and stout Morocco team stood in the way.

France won, 2-0.
