Dan Patrick blasts WNBA commissioner Cathy Engelbert for canceling interview

The WNBA has enjoyed record-breaking interest over the past two seasons, but not everyone believes the league is capitalizing on its momentum.

Sports broadcaster Dan Patrick took issue with commissioner Cathy Engelbert after she abruptly canceled a planned interview on his show, calling out the decision during Friday's broadcast.

Dan Patrick blasts Cathy Engelbert

On Friday's broadcast of "The Dan Patrick Show," Patrick went into detail about a situation that unfolded on Thursday afternoon. Patrick's show was expecting to have Engelbert on the show after she agreed to come on to discuss several WNBA-related items.

Patrick revealed that he and his crew waited on Engelbert for nearly two hours before finally receiving word that she'd been recommended by the WNBA PR staff not to join the show. Patrick did not mince words when revealing his feelings about Engelbert's late cancellation.

"We're just trying to be a journalist and ask questions, that's all," Patrick said on Friday. "If you want to be treated as a serious league, this is what happens. These are tough questions, but this is a fair outlet for you — a fair platform. I will treat you with respect."

Engelbert remains under heavy criticism

Engelbert remains under criticism from the WNBA for several reasons, especially the way players in the league seem to rough up superstar Caitlin Clark.

She has yet to give a true answer to the multiple occurrences of Clark being played differently, something that Patrick was hoping to ask and get a real answer on.

Is an interview coming in the future?

Patrick ended his rant on Friday by stating that Engelbert's decision to come on the show and then make the show wait two hours before her cancellation was "a problem," and it "says a lot about what's going on with the WNBA."

It appears that Engelbert's best move would be to reach out to Patrick and his team to schedule a makeup interview to both clear the air with Patrick and listen to the questions that WNBA fans want answers to.
