Tiger Woods offers Tom Kim thoughtful gesture after ending drought at Genesis Scottish Open

The time Tom Kim has spent with Tiger Woods is beginning to pay off.

Kim shot a bogey-free 6-under 70 during the final round of the Genesis Scottish Open on Sunday to win his first PGA Tour event in 1,001 days. He finished the tournament 17-under.

The long-awaited victory was a sweet one for Kim. It became even sweeter when he opened his phone and checked his text messages.

Who was the first person to text Tom Kim after Genesis Scottish Open?

"You know, this was my first win in three years and the first person that text me was Tiger Woods," Kim told the media after the event ended. "It just shows you the type of person he is, how much he cares."

Kim befriended Woods when he played on his team, The Jupiter Links Golf Club, in the TGL. The golf superstar has since grown closer with Kim, serving as a mentor.

"Obviously playing TGL, being on Tiger's team, and being able to really ask him a lot of questions on certain things, and he's been really helpful a lot of the time," Kim said while discussing what helped him finally hoist a trophy.

Kim added that Woods is not the only person he has sought advice from. He watched clips of other golf stars to learn more about their mental game to break out of his slump. Now, he hopes to take all he has learned during this time to begin stacking more wins and recapture the promise he showed early in his career.

Kim, who turned 24 on June 21, is now tied with Hideki Matsuyama (four) for the third-most PGA Tour wins among non-American players before turning 25. He'll aim to win his first major at the British Open, which begins this upcoming Thursday. He still has a long way to go before catching his friend Woods, a 15-time major champion.
