Browns urged toward move that would thrill Shedeur Sanders, Deshaun Watson

The Cleveland Browns have a high-profile quarterback matchup going strong between Shedeur Sanders and Deshaun Watson. Any NFL fan who isn't living under a rock knows this. But, there's another quarterback in the Browns' stable, and that's Dillon Gabriel.

Gabriel isn't really being considered for the starting quarterback role. But, he's still technically competition for Sanders and Watson. Gabriel is a backup, but he's waiting in the wings and surely wouldn't be mad about getting the chance to start if Sanders and Watson aren't cutting it.

But, the Browns could actually surprise the league and trade Gabriel away before the season and before any triple quarterback competition starts. It's a possibility, although everything is at this point.

Browns advised to trade quarterback before September

In a Tuesday feature, Moe Moton of Bleacher Report advises every NFL team to make one trade ahead of the 2026 season. For the Browns, he says to say "goodbye" to Gabriel.

"According to The Athletic's Zac Jackson, Deshaun Watson and Shedeur Sanders are battling for the starting job," he notes. "Based on his report of the team's quarterback competition, Gabriel will be a backup at best in the upcoming season."

So, what's in it for the Browns? He says that if they're planning to get a quarterback in the 2027 draft, they should trade him for a late 2027 pick.

"As a rookie in six starts, he threw for 937 yards, seven touchdowns and two interceptions with a 59.5 percent completion rate," he adds of Gabriel. "A team in need of a primary backup may be willing to take a flier on him."

Sanders and Watson surely wouldn't cry buckets if Gabriel got traded away. But either way, they're focused on each other right now.
