Updates shared ahead of the July 4 holiday suggested that the New York Giants were concerned about what second-year running back Cam Skattebo and third-year wide receiver Malik Nabers will be coming off serious injuries.
During a recent appearance on "The Domonique Foxworth Show," first-year Giants head coach John Harbaugh seemed more optimistic about the two young talents.
"They're doing well," Harbaugh said about Skattebo and Nabers, per Dan Benton of Giants Wire. "They're both in rehabbing every day, working super hard. I would say they're on schedule."
Nabers suffered a torn ACL and torn meniscus on Sept. 28, 2025, and he later required a "clean-up" procedure related to that injury. On July 2, ESPN's Jordan Raanan said that Nabers was "uncertain for the start of the season."
As for Skattebo, he went down with a gruesome dislocation of his right ankle on Oct. 26, 2025. In June, he seemed confident that he would be good to go for the Giants' 2026 season opener against the rival Dallas Cowboys on Sept. 13.
Harbaugh neither confirmed nor denied whether that will be the case, but it's clear that Skattebo is further ahead in his recovery as of the middle of July.
"Skatt will be ready early on in camp, and Malik will be working his way into practice as camp gets started one way or another," Harbaugh added. "There's a lot of optimism around both of those guys right now. I feel really good about their respective paths. I don't want to make any guarantees, but I think you'll see a lot of those guys this season. Skatt is further ahead based on the type of injury, but Malik is not far behind. He's in a good place right now."
Nabers is the only true WR1 on the Giants' roster and should serve as the favorite target for second-year quarterback Jaxson Dart later this year. However, nothing Harbaugh said during his latest show appearance will keep Giants fans from fearing that at least Nabers could miss multiple September games until he is cleared to go up against a live defense.
