Veteran wide receiver Stefon Diggs remains a free agent heading into the halfway point of July.
During Monday's edition of ESPN's "NFL Live" program, league insider Jeremy Fowler shared a couple of interesting updates regarding Diggs' situation.
"I'm hearing he's gonna have a market closer to training camp," Fowler said about Diggs. "I was told that at least five teams that need a wide receiver have been checking in" on Diggs.
Fowler did not reveal the identity of those five clubs. However, he did say that he was "looking to" the Washington Commanders as a possible landing spot for Diggs. Diggs, 32, is from the state of Maryland, played collegiately at the University of Maryland and hinted in June that "it would be great to come home and play in front of the fans I used to play in front of as a young adolescent in college."
Interestingly, Fowler also suggested that a Baltimore Ravens team that features star Lamar Jackson as its starting quarterback could also kick the tires on possibly signing Diggs. As of Tuesday afternoon, DraftKings Sportsbook had the Ravens and Buffalo Bills tied for second among the betting favorites at +1000 odds to win Super Bowl LXI. The Los Angeles Rams topped the list at that time at +550 odds.
Meanwhile, current San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk may have burned a bridge regarding his playing future when he and Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels recently took shots at each other via social media. Aiyuk seemingly wants to eventually join the Commanders, but multiple noteworthy members of the NFL community have voiced concerns about his odd behavior throughout the spring and summer months.
During his update, Fowler said that he doesn't "think" the Commanders are going to target Aiyuk. Aiyuk hasn't played in an NFL game since he suffered a serious knee injury in October 2024, and it's unclear if any team will take a flier on him if he is eventually released by the Niners.
As for Diggs, he led the 2025 New England Patriots with 85 receptions, 102 targets and 1,013 receiving yards en route to helping that team reach the Super Bowl. Over 17 regular-season contests, he recorded four touchdown catches.
