Cowboys' Brian Schottenheimer calls Super Bowl shot ahead of 2026 season

In January 2025, Dallas Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones promoted Brian Schottenheimer from the role of offensive coordinator to head coach. The Cowboys then finished their first season under Schottenheimer with a disappointing record of 7-9-1.

During a recent appearance on "The Twins Take Podcast," Schottenheimer made it clear he isn't lacking confidence regarding what the Cowboys can accomplish this season.

Cowboys "plan on" being in next Super Bowl

"I want to win it for the people under my leadership," Schottenheimer said about the Cowboys possibly being the last team standing, per Charean Williams of Pro Football Talk. "I want to win it for (quarterback) Dak Prescott. I want to win it for (wide receiver) CeeDee Lamb and (defensive tackle) Quinnen Williams, for your players that put in so much, you know, hard work and the sacrifice that goes into what we do. You know, from us as a coaching staff, it’s the hours; it’s the mental strain of game planning. But for the players, they put their bodies on the line. I make no qualms that that’s the goal. The Super Bowl next year is Feb. 14th, 2027. We plan on being there."

The Cowboys haven't made an NFC Championship Game appearance since they won the Super Bowl in January 1996. That said, Dallas made numerous offseason moves to bolster the team's defense earlier this year. Additionally, the Cowboys' offense could make things difficult for defenses around the NFL as long as Prescott, Lamb and dynamic wide receiver George Pickens stay healthy for the bulk of the upcoming campaign.

Why Brian Schottenheimer wants "extra" Super Bowl ring

Long before Brian Schottenheimer became Dallas' head coach, Marty Schottenheimer served as a head coach at the highest level for 21 seasons. Marty never won a Super Bowl, something Brian wants to make right in his own special way.

"I’ve said this from the very beginning," Brian added. "When we get our Super Bowl rings, I’ll be getting an extra one for my dad."

As of Wednesday morning, DraftKings Sportsbook had the Cowboys as +2500 betting underdogs to win Super Bowl LXI. Perhaps Brian Schottenheimer will use that information as bulletin board material when Dallas opens training camp.
