Twins blow a late comeback attempt with most pathetic baserunning mistakes

Ruben Rivera is somewhere smiling at the Minnesota Twins right now.

The Twins played on Saturday against the Chicago Cubs. In the ninth inning at Wrigley Field in Chicago, Ill., the Twins were down 6-2 but were threatening to make a comeback with runners on first and second base and nobody out.

It all went south though when Minnesota shortstop Brooks Lee smashed a ball into center field that fell right out of the reach of Chicago outfielder Pete Crow-Armstrong. Both lead runner Josh Bell and trailing runner Victor Caratini were completely confused on what to do and got caught in no man’s land between bases as the throw came back into the infield.

Caratini appeared to be running too fast when the ball was dropped, forcing Bell to try to come to home plate to open a base. Bell was then tagged out trying to retreat back to third … and then the batter Lee (who was initially trying to take second base) was thrown out attempting to return to first.
