Angel Reese responds to Tempo HC Sandy Brondello's apology, WNBA decision

It's been an atypical weekend for Atlanta Dream star Angel Reese, who got thrown into the middle of a controversy following the team's game on Friday against the Toronto Tempo.

During that game, while Brondello was lashing out at officials over missed calls, she said, "Angel, she's a protected species."

Then, on Saturday, Brondello apologized to Reese with a statement shared on social media.

"Angel, I'm sorry," Brondello stated in the message on X. "Last night, in the emotion of the moment after Nyara's injury, I used a phrase that I shouldn't have used, and I take full responsibility for that. My frustration was with the officiating, but my words unfairly put the focus on you."

The WNBA has suspended Brondello for making those comments about Reese to officials, and Reese reacted to the decision.

"I appreciate Sandy's apology, but I also appreciate the love and support that I've had for the last 48 hours," Reese said Sunday, according to Bleacher Report. "It has been very overwhelming, a lot of love and also other things. But I am grateful that the league did take action."

Reese also talked about how there's "no place for discrimination or hate in this league from anyone, from fans to coaches to players."

She added that she's "just grateful that we are able to move on from the situation and just play winning basketball. The WNBA is supposed to be positive, and we are going in a great light right now, so I just want to continue that and move forward."

So, Reese is turning a page and putting this incident behind her. It's moments like these that hopefully bring the league together even more instead of dividing it.
