IndyCar's World Cup lead-in at Nashville spoiled by rain; NASCAR at North Wilkesboro also deals with weather

IndyCar was hoping for a massive audience for Sunday's Borchetta Bourbon Music City Grand Prix at Nashville Superspeedway, but despite a thrilling World Cup Final between Spain and Argentina that aired before the race on Fox, it likely won't see the viewership numbers it hoped to. 

Multiple lightning holds and rain have pushed the start of the race back. IndyCar had hoped to start the event shortly after the conclusion of World Cup coverage, but despite the match going to extra time, coverage of award presentations and lengthy post-game coverage, Fox's coverage had yet to shift to the race as of 7 p.m. ET. 

A start time for the race is yet to be determined, but it will still air on Fox and the IndyCar Radio Network. Kyle Kirkwood will start the race from the pole. 

IndyCar not only series dealing with weather

NASCAR also dealt with Mother Nature's wrath on Sunday evening. A deluge at North Wilkesboro Speedway (TNT, PRN, SiriusXM NASCAR Radio) delayed the start of the Window World 450, though the delay will be far shorter than IndyCar's at Nashville. 

The Cup race at North Wilkesboro was slated for a 7:14 p.m. ET green flag, while IndyCar initially expected to take the green flag at Nashville Superspeedway shortly after 5:30 p.m. ET. 

Ty Gibbs will start first at North Wilkesboro after Ryan Blaney, who was originally the polesitter, had to drop to the rear of the field due to power steering issues.
