Sophie Cunningham reveals unique request she's getting from fans

Indiana Fever veteran Sophie Cunningham has become one of the WNBA's most popular players.

Outspoken and unapologetic, the former Phoenix Mercury player has become the Fever's enforcer and energy catalyst off the bench. That also turned her into a meme.

Facing her former team, Cunningham got into a heated altercation with forward DeWanna Bonner, mocking her and pointing right at her face.

It didn't take long for the hilarious gesture to go nuclear on social media, to the point where fans and even kids are asking her to point when they see her now.

Sophie Cunningham is embracing her virality

That happened again before the Fever's matchup with the New York Liberty, as some kids asked Cunningham for a photo and urged her to point. Following the impromptu photo-op, she revealed that's her new normal:

“They're the ones requesting that. They're like, ‘Hey, can you point?' I'm like, ‘Whatever you guys want.' So, I walked in, and instead of like cheers and stuff, everyone pointed. I don't know if they set that up or what, but it's been really fun to come in there, and now they all start to do it,” Cunningham told the media, per WISH-TV News' Angela Moryan.

She didn't necessarily mean to be funny or become a meme, but she's now embracing the virality:

“But I did not mean for that meme (to happen), to even become a meme, and it just kind of went all over the world, so it's been kind of funny,” she added.

Cunningham is certainly enjoying all of the new attention, even making a cameo at UFC 329 and pointing at UFC legend Max Holloway.

She's also made a positive impact on Stephanie White's team, averaging 9.4 points and 2.3 rebounds per game while shooting 43.7 percent from beyond the arc, per Basketball Reference
