Orioles trade three-time All-Star Adley Rutschman to AL East rival

There is no denying that the Boston Red Sox are the hottest team in MLB entering the last two months of the season.

Fresh off a 21-4 record in July and three-game sweep of the Los Angeles Dodgers, Boston swung big ahead of Monday's trade deadline and went within the AL East to acquire more help on offense.

Adley Rutschman is reportedly headed to Boston

According to MLB personality Jared Carrabis and several other reports, Boston has acquired switch-hitting catcher Adley Rutschman from the Baltimore Orioles.

Rutschman, the former No. 1 draft pick in 2019, has been on the injured list since July 19 with a left wrist injury.

In return, Baltimore is receiving stellar pitching prospect Anthony Eyanson as well as Enddy Azocar, Kyson Witherspoon, Harold Rivas and Carlos Narvaez.

Can Adley Rutschman return to his 2023 form?

Rutschman's breakout season in the majors came in 2023 when he slashed .277/.374/.435, good for an .809 OPS with 20 home runs, 31 doubles and 80 RBI.

Since that season, though, Rutschman has struggled with both production and health. He's played just 157 of a possible 274 games over the previous two seasons.

If fully healthy, Adley Rutschman could be a big piece

Rutschman's health will certainly make all the difference in him being productive or not.

If he is, though, the Red Sox will have a switch-hitting catcher for not only the remainder of this season, but for next year as well. Rutschman could very get his career rejuvenated by joining a Boston team that is right in the middle of a postseason push.
