Why Dante Moore is the best quarterback in the country

There isn't a shortage of elite quarterbacks entering the 2026 college football season.

But if you had to pick one quarterback to build a championship team around, the choice is clear.

It's Dante Moore.

Moore made the decision to return to school and bypass the NFL. That decision wasn't just about improving his draft stock. It was about chasing a national championship and a Heisman Trophy.

His first full season as Oregon's starter answered nearly every question surrounding his development.

After an up-and-down start to his college career at UCLA, Moore flourished under Oregon's coaching staff. He threw for 3,565 yards and 30 touchdowns while leading the Ducks to the College Football Playoff semifinals. More importantly, he showed complete command of one of the nation's most explosive offenses.

What separates Moore from the rest of the field isn't just production.

It's how he plays the position.

He has one of the quickest releases in college football, consistently throws with anticipation and accuracy and has the arm strength to attack every level of the field. Whether he's fitting passes into tight windows over the middle or dropping deep balls over a defender's shoulder, Moore makes difficult throws look routine.

He's also become a far more composed decision-maker.

Early in his career, Moore occasionally forced throws and relied too heavily on his arm talent. Last season, he played with patience. He trusted the structure of the offense and consistently took what defenses gave him. That growth is one of the biggest reasons many evaluators view him as the nation's top quarterback entering the season.

That's not meant to diminish the competition.

Arch Manning possesses unmatched upside and could very well win the Heisman Trophy. Julian Sayin is as efficient as any quarterback in the country, and Trinidad Chambliss has already shown he can carry a team deep into the postseason. On any given Saturday, all three can look like the best quarterback in college football.

But Moore has the most complete resume.

The Ducks expect to compete for a Big Ten championship, return to the College Football Playoff and contend for a national title. They'll go only as far as Moore takes them, which is something they should feel quite comfortable with.
