'He's an entertaining guy': Luke Lambert enjoys watching Carson Hocevar's antics

At the very least, Carson Hocevar is the most entertaining driver in NASCAR simply due to his on- and off-track antics.

It helps that his performance has been equally as exciting. The 23-year-old driver picked up his first career win at Talladega on April 26 and is fifth in the Cup Series standings through 22 races, higher than any other Chevrolet driver in the field.

There's never a dull day with Carson Hocevar behind the wheel

"It's fun and entertaining to see him show his personality," said Hocevar's crew chief, Luke Lambert, Wednesday on SiriusXM NASCAR Radio. "He's an entertaining guy. As far as what we do at the shop and in the race car, we try to have fun and enjoy the process, but also make sure that we are all focused on the right things when the time comes to put the effort in to be prepared for the event and navigate the event."

Even in the heat of battle, Hocevar finds new ways to enjoy himself. At Atlanta in July, the Quaker State 400 stretched into the wee hours of Monday, July 13, finishing just before 2 a.m. ET. Hocevar, who was battling for the win and finished third, was singing under caution in the closing laps.

"He's a fun guy to work with," Lambert said. "He's a young kid. I see my role in working with him as trying to guide him along this process and be an advocate for him and a mentor for him at times. He's a tremendous talent. I think that's clear to everybody. And as he grows and learns more and gains more experience within the sport, we've seen his performance obviously rise."
