Arizona's Brent Brennan developing elite pipeline to Southern California school

Arizona Wildcats head football coach Brent Brennan and his staff have built themselves an old-school recruiting pipeline.

It's almost an outdated phrase in the NIL and transfer portal era. Nowadays, recruits are more likely to commit for NIL money over any comfort they have with a program. And if the money is not good, they can quickly hop into the transfer portal and give it a try somewhere else.

That's the reality we live in as the college football universe, but apparently pipelines can still be a thing: when a head coach and his staff spend so much time around a high school program that they can pick out the cream of the crop from that school on a yearly basis. That's an old-school concept centered around relationships on the recruiting trail, but it has worked out for Brennan and the Wildcats.

In the case of Crean Lutheran High School in Irvine, California, it has worked out massively on the 2027 recruiting trail.

On Wednesday, three-star cornerback Jacob Whitehead committed to Arizona. He's the fifth senior from Crean Lutheran to commit to Arizona in this cycle.

“I have great relationships with the coaches there and really feel accepted by everyone," Whitehead told Rivals regarding his decision. "I love how excited they are to add me to such a great program and I love the all-around fit."

Arizona has 18 2027 commitments, which means that 27 percent of its class is from Crean.

Ty Johnson, a four-star wide receiver, leads the way both for this group of five and for Arizona's 2027 class as a whole. He's ranked as the No. 47 wideout in the country and is Brennan's top-ranked commitment so far.

Checking in at 6-foot-2, 165 pounds, Whitehead is ranked as the No. 54 cornerback in the country, according to 247Sports.
