Texans extend Henry To’oTo’o, furthering plan to lock up defensive core

To further lock up key members of the defense, the Houston Texans secured a consistently productive linebacker on Thursday. 

Houston agreed to terms with linebacker Henry To’oTo’o for two more years, per Mike Garafolo and Ian Rapoport. To’oTo’o's new extension is for $16 million and he can earn up to another million by reaching certain incentives.  

Henry To’oTo’o has been consistently productive in his 3 years in the NFL 

To’oTo’o is coming off a season in which he accounted for 95 tackles, with 42 credited as solo and 53 assisted, and registered four pass deflections and 2.5 sacks in 17 games. Only three years into his career, To’oTo’o, who was drafted in the fifth round in 2023 out of Alabama, set a career-high with 105 combined tackles in 2024. 

Houston's plan to focus on defense is clear 

This continues to show the Texans' clear emphasis on the defensive side of the ball, the unit that led the team to a 12-5 record and a dominating win over the Pittsburgh Steelers in the AFC Wild Card Round. It comes after already retaining defensive ends Logan Hall and Danielle Hunter, defensive tackle Sheldon Rankins and Naquan Jones while bringing in former Chicago Bears defensive end Dominique Robinson. 

Can the Texans' defense be even better this coming season? 

Houston's defense will now be together for years to come and should only be stronger after being ranked first overall in 2025. The Texans only allowed 277.2 total yards per game last season. 

And with the future of quarterback C.J. Stroud as the face of the franchise in doubt for some, it makes sense for the Texans to fully lean into their role as one of the more imposing defenses in the AFC, if not the entire NFL.
