Eagles GM shares candid take on Jalen Hurts amid contract speculation

Jalen Hurts and the Philadelphia Eagles are entering a critical period in their relationship.

Hurts doesn't have more guaranteed money in his contract, yet it doesn't sound like the team is in a rush to extend it.

Some speculate that, without an extension before the start of the season, the Eagles might look for an exit if Hurts doesn't take another leap this season.

In a recent appearance on Kay Adams' "Up & Adams," Eagles general manager Howie Roseman addressed the situation, and while he didn't talk about the contract specifically, he did address Hurts' need to be better.

The Eagles respect Jalen Hurts, but he has to improve

“I think when you’re around somebody for as long as you’ve been around, you got a pretty good feel for who the person is, who the player is, and at the same time, just like I’m talking about improving, he’s looking to improve in all aspects, and obviously he’s been thrown a lot of different offense coordinators at him, and he hasn’t blinked,” Roseman said.

That might sound like he's pushing Hurts to be better, or else.' Nevertheless, Roseman also praised Hurts' ability to shut down the outside noise and get to work regardless of the criticism:

“I think that’s what’s impressive. And we talked about what it means to be an Eagle: overcome adversity. I mean, the guy continually overcomes adversity. He constantly has doubters, constantly has to reprove himself every year, and never complains about it. You know, he just puts his head down and goes to work. I think that’s a great example of what we’re looking for in everyone in this building,” the general manager added.

There were some pretty incendiary reports about Hurts' demeanor and how he may have ruffled some feathers in the organization.

He's a Super Bowl-winning quarterback, though the narrative often revolves around his stacked team and how he might actually be holding them back.

And after indirectly forcing the team to choose between him and A.J. Brown, patience might be running out for him in the City of Brotherly Love.
