How Andres Gimenez's productive hitting in high-leverage situations has impacted Blue Jays

Andres Gimenez has been clutch for the Toronto Blue Jays this season, batting a team-best .318 with runners in scoring position (RISP) and two outs.

In his last 15 games, he's logged a .306 batting average with five stolen bases, a home run, 15 hits and nine RBI. While Gimenez is more known for his defense and hasn't exactly been consistent with his offensive output overall (.238 batting average), he's proved to be reliable with his bat in high-leverage situations as well as late-inning rallies.

In the Philadelphia Phillies series, the shortstop was productive, recording four hits in 13 at-bats with a home run and six RBI. He also drove in a key run with a single in the sixth inning that led the Blue Jays to a 2-1 victory over the Boston Red Sox on Monday.

Overall this season with RISP, he has compiled four doubles, a triple and a home run in terms of extra-base hits, while batting .266 with a .308 on-base percentage.

Andres Gimenez has been the definition of clutch

Gimenez also leads the Blue Jays in steals with 16, has only been caught three times and owns an 84.2% success rate. But the 27-year-old coming up big in key moments is nothing new as he made MLB history in the 2025 postseason by driving in 12 runs while batting in the eighth or ninth spot in the lineup.

His two-run double and sacrifice fly against the Phillies on Aug. 8 helped spark a comeback that led to a 7-5 victory in extras for the Blue Jays. Gimenez has hit eight home runs this season, and that is tied for fourth-best on the team with Jesus Sanchez and Brandon Valenzuela.

His eight home runs already surpass his home-run total from last season (7), showcasing how he has more pop to his bat than anticipated and providing enhanced production at the bottom of the lineup.

If he can continue to be a reliable performer, it will certainly provide a boost to the Blue Jays, who still have a fighting chance at being contenders this season.
