Caitlin Clark calls out Fever fans for booing head coach Stephanie White

Caitlin Clark is standing up for her head coach.

Clark and the Indiana Fever defeated the New York Liberty on Tuesday by a final score of 106-92. After the game at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Ind., Clark spoke with reporters and called out her team’s fans for their harsh treatment (including boos) of Fever head coach Stephanie White.

“It’s tough,” Clark said, per Alexa Philippou of ESPN. “Like, that’s my head coach. I hated that our fans booed her before the game. That made me a little sick, to be honest … That’s our head coach, and we’re going to ride for her, and we’re always going to have her back.

“I just love her, and I feel for her because I know it can be a lot of times, and she does a great job a lot of times blocking [the outside noise] out,” added Clark of White. “But there’s other moments where it can get under your skin, and that’s just being human, and that’s just life.”

White was booed during pregame introductions after her controversial comments about Chicago Sky guard DiJonai Carrington’s hard flagrant foul against Fever star Sophie Cunningham over the weekend. After the game against the Sky, White seemingly defended Carrington over the play instead of standing up for her own player in Cunningham.
