Cubs' Alex Bregman joins exclusive list with performance vs. Nationals

On a night when Pete Crow-Armstrong went 1-for-6, another Chicago Cubs player carried the team to victory in the middle game of their series with the Washington Nationals. 

With a trifecta of home runs, Alex Bregman, the Cubs' big offseason addition, achieved a career first on Wednesday night. He crushed three home runs in a game for the first time in his 11-year career, making MLB history in the process.

Bregman was a perfect 3-for-3 with a home run for every hit, two walks and seven total RBI, driving in more than half of the Cubs' scoring output in their 12-6 win. 

Bregman's trio of long balls and pair of walks made him the 20th player since at least 1,900 to record three home runs and two walks in the same game. 

He was the first to do so since Will Smith with the Los Angeles Dodgers on July 5, 2024, and the first Cubs player to crack the list.
