Cowboys' Jerry Jones takes new victory lap over trading Micah Parsons to Packers

Back in May, Dallas Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones took some victory laps over the club's decision to trade star pass-rusher Micah Parsons to the Green Bay Packers for two first-round draft picks and defensive tackle Kenny Clark in August 2025.

While speaking with reporters on Thursday, Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones offered similar comments regarding what was the biggest blockbuster NFL trade of last summer. 

Jerry Jones likes "the result" of Micah Parsons trade

"Even though Micah's an outstanding talent [that] anybody would like to have, the bottom line is that I like what the result of the trade has ended up as I stand here today," Jerry Jones explained, per Todd Archer of ESPN.

Ahead of last season's trade deadline, the Cowboys acquired defensive tackle Quinnen Williams and linebacker Logan Wilson. Dallas later grabbed pass-rusher Malachi Lawrence, cornerback Devin Moore and defensive lineman LT Overton during this year's draft via assets linked with the Parsons trade. 

Earlier this week, Williams and the Cowboys agreed to a three-year, $105.9M contract extension.

Meanwhile, Parsons received a four-year, $188M contract that included $136M guaranteed from the Packers. He then tallied 12.5 sacks over 14 games before he suffered a season-ending torn ACL in the middle of December. He will miss at least the first four games of the 2026 season while on the physically unable to perform list, but he wants to play in the Packers' Week 6 game against the Cowboys on Oct. 18. 

Jerry Jones: Micah Parsons trade helped Cowboys bolster their defense

Throughout the offseason, Jones and the Cowboys received credit from numerous members of the NFL community for moves made that should bolster the team's defense. While Jones acknowledged that Parsons is a "great player," Jones also suggested that Parsons' talent allowed the Cowboys to complete a trade that the owner feels will ultimately benefit his club. 

"Otherwise, we wouldn't have had the opportunity to make that kind of trade. That's why it worked," Jones added. "But the fact that we revamped our defense, that was an instigator toward that attitude: 'Let's come in here and change this up, let's get rush from the interior, let's be stronger on the run in the interior with an emphasis on those guys in the middle.' That's not an accident. That that's what you see out there from the inside."
