Mike Florio pours cold water on potential Aaron Donald return

The Los Angeles Rams made two of the biggest moves in the NFL this offseason.

Trading for Trent McDuffie was huge, but adding reigning Defensive Player of the Year Myles Garrett to the mix was a league-shattering transaction.

It was such a big deal that even team legend Aaron Donald considered making a comeback after two years in retirement, and he's been working out tirelessly for that.

However, as NFL insider Mike Florio pointed out, what seemed imminent has been delayed, suggesting it may not happen after all.

Is Aaron Donald having doubts about a comeback?

“It still seems inevitable that Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald will emerge from two years of retirement to play alongside Myles Garrett. But there has still been no announcement from Donald, which strongly suggests he has still not made a final decision,” Florio wrote.

Donald reportedly stayed in game shape after retirement and flirted with the thought multiple times, though this is the first time he's actually considered making a return.

That said, he continues to drag out the announcement and decision, so Florio isn't fully convinced that it'll happen, at least not as soon as they made it seem:

“His target has been shifting. It went from early this week (Monday-ish) to late this week (Friday-ish). Now that the weekend has arrived, Donald has yet to make a decision,” Florio continued, adding that he still has until Week 13 of the season to make up his mind. 

Even so, Donald has laid some breadcrumbs about potentially unretiring, and it's hard to believe he'll back down after putting in the work over the past couple of weeks.

While the lack of updates might be frustrating, Rams head coach Sean McVay addressed his comeback as something that would most definitely happen. 

Donald is familiar with the organization and the schemes, and playing alongside the best pass-rusher in the world would certainly make his job easier; they probably don't even need him to play more than half the snaps.

Even so, it's not as simple as just saying he'll be back, and he'll also have to make some financial decisions about what's left of his lofty contract.
