Giants face Jaxson Dart decision after brutal hit vs. Vikings

The New York Giants were back on the field on Saturday for a preseason matchup against the Minnesota Vikings. The preseason is a place for rookies and young players to get comfortable on the field. It's not where starters usually spend a ton of time, because the worst thing imaginable is seeing a star get injured in a game that means nothing.

On Saturday, Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart took a huge hit from Vikings safety Jay Ward on a safety blitz. The incident happened at the end of the first quarter of the game. Ultimately, New York lost to Minnesota, 13-10.

Dart had to go to the medical tent after the hit. He was deemed okay and returned after missing just two plays. From there, Dart threw a touchdown pass to Malachi Fields in front of the crowd at MetLife Stadium.

While nothing serious seemed to come from the hit, this situation means head coach John Harbaugh and the Giants have a decision to make.

That decision is whether Dart should take the field again in the preseason. Dart is really the future of this franchise. He's the franchise quarterback, and this team's success is resting on him.

After seeing what happened on Saturday and seeing that Dart is totally comfortable on the field in the NFL, one has to wonder if it's a smart move to let him go back on the field.

Harbaugh started Dart even with left tackle Andrew Thomas out. If he's not going to have the protection he needs in the preseason, this seems like a no-brainer decision to bench Dart until September.
