Fever's Caitlin Clark beats the heat while making history against Tempo

Not even poor air conditioning could stop Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark in Tuesday's road contest against the Toronto Tempo.

Following the Fever's 101-95 win over the Tempo, Clark, who scored 24 points on 7-of-16 shooting from the field, was asked about having to finish the game without fellow guard Kelsey Mitchell, who exited in the third quarter. She then threw shade at the air conditioning, or lack thereof, in Scotiabank Arena.

Caitlin Clark takes jab at Tempo's AC unit

"Maybe if Canada had air conditioning, that would probably be helpful," Clark told ESPN's Holly Rowe (h/t Underdog WNBA). "It's a million degrees in here."

Fever head coach Stephanie White echoed Clark's complaints about the air conditioning in her postgame news conference.

"Seems like [Mitchell] just got overheated. This is two games in a row where we played in really, really hot environments," White said (h/t ESPN's Michael Voepel).

Opponents may be trying to turn up the temperature when they face the Fever, but Indiana hasn't melted in these conditions. It has sizzled. Its top duo of Clark and Mitchell has also made history.

Mitchell finished with 29 points on 11-of-16 shooting before leaving Tuesday's game. With that performance, she and Clark have now set a WNBA record for scoring 20-plus points in the same game, reaching the mark 16 times this season. Former Phoenix Mercury guards Diana Taurasi and Cappie Pondexter set the previous record (15) in 2008.

Mitchell's and Clark's historic season has the Fever (24-12) heating up with eight regular-season games remaining. Indiana has gone 8-2 over its last 10 games, putting it in a position to make a deep run in the postseason. If the playoffs began Tuesday night, the Eastern Conference squad would hold the No. 3 seed in the eight-team bracket.

If the Fever's offense keeps humming, they should make noise in the playoffs. During this 10-game stretch, Indiana has averaged an excellent 101.4 points per game.

Apparently, those blazing-hot temperatures haven't stopped the Fever from cooking. Perhaps they'll continue to do so as they near the playoffs.
