The Philadelphia 76ers made the two biggest, most aggressive moves in the NBA offseason.
If trading for Jaylen Brown wasn't impressive enough, they pulled off a stunner by signing LeBron James to the likely final two-year deal of his legendary career.
Needless to say, the 76ers are now one of the favorites to be the last team standing, especially in the Eastern Conference. However, Hall of Famer Shaquille O'Neal would rather pump the brakes on those aspirations, as he believes they need to mesh and buy in first.
“The team has enough talent to make a deep run,” Shaq told ClutchPoints, “but the question is whether everybody accepts their role, shares the ball, and stays healthy.”
As someone who's been on both ends of a super team, Shaq certainly knows what he's talking about. He won championships with Kobe Bryant, but he was also a part of the infamous "Fab Four" Los Angeles Lakers team that also featured Gary Payton and Karl Malone and lost in the NBA Finals.
It takes much more than talent and great players to find success in this league, especially in a seven-game series. That said, both James and Brown have extensive postseason experience and have won championships. They should help Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey finally get the monkey off their backs.
Still, a lot can happen in a long 82-game season. Injuries, miscommunication or simple misfortune can get in the way. As such, HC Nick Nurse has to focus on what his team can control, and it starts with everyone knowing and embracing their roles.
