Browns projected to cut ties with QB amid Shedeur Sanders, Deshaun Watson decision

With all the drama in the Cleveland Browns' camp with their quarterback competition between Shedeur Sanders and Deshaun Watson, it's easy to forget that there's another quarterback in the mix. Sanders and Watson have been getting all the attention, but they're not the only ones on the team's current roster.

The Browns also have quarterback Dillon Gabriel. The team drafted him in the third round of the 2025 NFL Draft with the 94th overall pick.

But, at least one NFL analyst thinks Gabriel's days are numbered amid the team's decision to start Watson in the first game of the season.

Dillion Gabriel's Cleveland Browns roster spot could be in jeopardy

Gary Davenport of Bleacher Report has released a feature naming players that he believes could get traded this season. "As many as 1,184 players will be released, return their playbooks and attempt to secure practice-squad spots," he notes of the upcoming days, due to the roster deadline on Sunday.

"Cleveland's crowded quarterback room makes Gabriel's path to a roster spot increasingly uncertain," he notes in the feature.

He adds that because of the quarterback battle, "Gabriel barely played in the Browns' second preseason game," and when he did, he didn't complete his only pass attempt."

"But he was on the field for three false starts, drawing the ire of head coach Todd Monken after the game," Davenport wrote.

He adds, "This isn't to say Gabriel won't land with another team, or that he can't carve out a lengthy career in the NFL as a backup quarterback. But it is becoming increasingly apparent that his next opportunity will come elsewhere."

Last season, Gabriel played in 10 games with six starts. He completed 110 of 185 passes for 937 yards and seven touchdowns and had two interceptions.
