Patriots avoid injury with A.J. Brown, but not with TreVeyon Henderson

With the preseason finale just a couple of days away, the New England Patriots want to keep everyone out of harm's way.

Mike Vrabel's team finally got star CB Christian Gonzalez back on the field after a two-week absence, but it wasn't all positive in Foxborough.

According to Patriots insider Ben Volin, the slippery grass caused a big injury scare with A.J. Brown.

And while the star wide receiver was able to dodge the bullet, TreVeyon Henderson wasn't as fortunate.

"Christian Gonzalez returned to Patriots practice. Was limited at first but took a lot of full team reps," Volin shared on X. "The grass was noticeably slick today. TreVeyon Henderson slipped and left early with apparent ankle injury. AJ Brown also had a scary misstep but avoided a non-contact injury."

The Patriots' second-year running back seemed poised for a bigger role in 2026 after playing second fiddle to veteran Rhamondre Stevenson as a rookie.

The injury might not be severe, but with Vrabel expressing concerns about the team's depth — or lack thereof — the Patriots will likely err on the side of caution.

The Patriots have held out their starters from the first two preseason games, with the veterans getting the bulk of the work done in joint practices.

Now, even if the starters get a drive or two in Thursday night's preseason finale, it's hard to imagine they'll take any chances with Henderson in a seemingly meaningless game.
