Chad Tracy’s future with the Red Sox gets an update

The Boston Red Sox made the surprising decision to fire manager Alex Cora at the end of April after a brutal 10-17 start.

Chad Tracy was named the interim manager, and he had been the manager for Worcester, the Red Sox’s top affiliate, since 2022.

Fast forward to the end of August, and all signs point to Tracy being the frontrunner for the full-time job, according to a report from Chris Cotillo of Mass Live.

“At this time, a baseball source said over the weekend, Tracy getting Boston’s full-time managerial position before next season is more likely than not,” Cotillo wrote.

The report added that the franchise appears to be “intent on being deliberate in their decision-making process.”

Red Sox first baseman Willson Contreras also admitted he hopes Tracy gets the job.

“I will say yes, but that’s not my call,” Contreras said. “That’s a good question for the president and the GM. But all of us like him here.”

After a 10-17 start, Tracy has put together a 61-42 record, including a 15-game winning streak that ended in July.

Entering Monday, the Red Sox have a 71-59 record, are six games back of first place in the American League East, and are currently holding the second Wild Card spot in the AL, so everything is trending in the right direction.

At this rate, barring a huge collapse, Chad Tracy should feel good about entering the offseason as the top candidate for the job.
