Injury woes creep up again for Blue Jays as Shane Bieber lands on 15-day IL

The Toronto Blue Jays' starting rotation can't seem to catch a break this season when it comes to injuries, as Shane Bieber has been placed on the 15-day injury list (IL) with right teres major inflammation.

In a corresponding move, the Blue Jays have called up right-handed pitcher Chad Dallas from Triple-A Buffalo.

Bieber started the season on the IL with right forearm fatigue and also had Tommy John surgery in 2024. Despite a rough debut this season where he gave up four runs on nine hits, his recent performance has provided stability in the rotation. He regained his dominance with his slider that was an issue during his troubling stretch, where he held a 9.00 ERA and struggled with command issues.

But his recent stretch of success included back-to-back quality starts (Aug. 14 and 20) where he only gave up one run in each of those starts. He also went 3-0 in August and improved his ERA in August to 2.59, which makes his right shoulder injury a significant blow.

Shane Bieber's injury comes during pivotal stretch for Blue Jays

Bieber's injury comes at an inconvenient time as the Blue Jays are battling to make a push in a tight AL wild-card race and Bieber's bounce-back performance has helped improve the Blue Jays' chances of gaining a final wild-card spot.

Bieber was also scheduled to pitch on Wednesday against the Kansas City Royals, which now leaves the Blue Jays in a flux, searching yet again for steadiness in rotation that's been taxed all season.
