Broncos HC Sean Payton roasts former offensive lineman Geoff Schwartz for ill-informed Bo Nix take

Former New York Giants offensive lineman/Fox Sports analyst Geoff Schwartz should've done more homework on Denver Broncos third-year quarterback Bo Nix.

During Wednesday's taping of FS1's "First Things First," Schwartz offered an inaccurate take on Nix. Many on X let him know that, including Broncos head coach Sean Payton.

"I do think he just is what he is at this point. He looks like the same quarterback he was in college...He's consistent," Schwartz said. "He's not gonna make mistakes. But he's not gonna push the ball down the field that often."

Nix, however, lets it fly frequently. A community note on the original clip shared that Pro Football Focus and Next Gen Stats credit the QB with the most touchdown passes (19, including postseason) of 20-plus air yards (distance the ball travels from the line of scrimmage through the air) since the 2024 season.

Sports Info Solutions, another site that tracks advanced stats, noted Nix went 51-of-137 on passes of 20-plus air yards during his first two seasons. Chicago Bears third-year QB Caleb Williams, a strong-armed passer, went 47-of-127 on such attempts during the same span.

Nix compares favorably to his other peers. Per SIS, he tied with Seattle Seahawks QB Sam Darnold for the most deep completions (25) in the league in 2025. He also had more than Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes (22) and Buffalo Bills QB Josh Allen (21). Los Angeles Rams QB Matthew Stafford, meanwhile, led the league (36).

Schwartz clearly should've studied Nix's game more. Payton let him know that.

"Always easy to tell who works at it and doesn't," the coach wrote Thursday while replying to the clip.

Former New Orleans Saints HC Payton, who's aiming to become the first coach to win a Super Bowl with two different franchises, hopes his team is well-prepared, unlike many hasty TV pundits, this upcoming season. Denver went 14-3 last season but lost to the New England Patriots 10-7 in the AFC Championship Game after Nix fractured his right ankle near the end of a 33-30 divisional-round win over the Bills.

Nix is now 100 percent after undergoing two operations this offseason. He could be poised for another big year after the Broncos acquired wide receiver Jaylen Waddle from the Miami Dolphins. The "explosive playmaker" should allow Nix to push the ball downfield plenty, making Schwartz look even more foolish.
