Trade-deadline acquisition Luis Garcia Jr. providing power boost for Yankees

New York Yankees trade deadline acquisition Luis Garcia Jr. has continued to provide the team with a much-needed power boost with both Giancarlo Stanton and Aaron Judge sidelined with injuries.

Since joining the team, he's batting a stellar .306 with five home runs, 11 RBI and a dominant .924 OPS across 19 games. In addition, he has a .354 on-base percentage, a .569 slugging percentage and a 155 wRC+.

In the Yankees 9-3 victory over the Houston Astros on Wednesday he crushed a two-run home run in the bottom of the eighth inning to increase their lead to six. In the bottom of the second inning, Garcia Jr. just missed hitting a grand slam as the ball went foul.

He has found his home in pinstripes and his swing and batting stance have been compared to former Yankee Robinson Cano.

Luis Garcia Jr. is the power surge that the Yankees have needed

Garcia Jr. demonstrated in his debut with the Yankees that he's an elite run producer, hitting a two-run shot in the seventh inning against the St. Louis Cardinals. While the Yankees lost 13-7, he made his presence known and since then has proven to be a valuable pickup.

He homered in back-to-back games on Aug. 21 and 22, providing an insurance bomb against the Baltimore Orioles that led to a 6-1 victory while also crushing a two-run homer against the Toronto Blue Jays that helped spark a 4-3 victory in a tight game.

The 26-year-old first baseman has 22 hits across 72 at-bats and is batting .287 on the season. His average exit velocity of 91.6 mph ranks in the 86th percentile and he has shown elite success against breaking balls, hitting .344.

He has already provided the Yankees with six multi-hit games, including a four-hit performance on Aug. 25. While the Boston Red Sox have been making noise and threatening the Yankees, New York continues to hold second place in the AL East standings.

Garcia's left-handed power will be an asset when the postseason arrives.
