Former Miami LB Wesley Bissainthe joins lawsuit seeking a fifth year of eligibility

Former Miami Hurricanes linebacker Wesley Bissainthe has joined the lawsuit seeking a fifth year of college eligibility, according to reporting from CBS Sports' Matt Zenitz.

Bissainthe joins several others, including Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Jordan Hudson and his former Kansas City Chiefs teammate, wide receiver Omari Evans, in a lawsuit that now includes dozens of former college football players looking to extend their careers. Bissainthe signed with Kansas City as an undrafted free agent after not being selected in the 2026 NFL Draft.

A temporary restraining order has been issued allowing the group to return to college.

However, on Wednesday, the ACC joined the Big 10, Big 12 and SEC in banning professional players from returning to campus. While Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald reports that Bissainthe is a strong candidate to make the KC practice squad, there have been no indications as to whether he would prefer to return to Miami or even enter the transfer portal instead.

Wesley Bissainthe's career with Miami

Bissainthe was among the first key additions for new head coach Mario Cristobal in 2022. In four seasons with the Hurricanes, Bissainthe had 121 tackles, 14.5 tackles for a loss, five sacks, two interceptions, three passes defended, a fumble recovery, a forced fumble, and a pass breakup.

It's unclear if Cristobal would welcome Bissainthe back to the program or even if Miami has room on the roster for him. Mohammad Toure and Chase Smith are the projected starting linebackers for the team. Both players received extra eligibility following multiple missed seasons to injury. Toure is entering his eighth season with the program and Smith his sixth.
