Kevin Durant wants 1 notable executive job after he retires

Kevin Durant is hoping to go into front office work … at the national team level.

The Houston Rockets star forward Durant appeared this week on the latest episode of “Boardroom Talks.” During the interview, Durant said that he is eyeing the general manager job of Team USA Basketball once he retires.

“One of my main goals is to be the GM of Team USA,” said Durant. “In one of these Olympics, one of these years, I want to do that job one time.”

The official title of the job is Team USA Basketball Managing Director. The position was famously held by Jerry Colangelo from 2005-21.

But there is already (active) precedent for a former NBA All-Star taking on the role. Grant Hill took over for Colangelo in 2021 and has held Team USA’s Managing Director position ever since.

As for Durant, he turns 38 years old next month and is only under contract through 2028. He is already perhaps Team USA’s single greatest player of all-time (with four Olympic gold medals and a record 518 career Olympics points scored) and is now targeting the Managing Director job for after he retires from the NBA (which might not be too far off at this point).
