Mets' Francisco Alvarez joins legendary catchers with latest multi-HR game

Any catcher sandwiched between Johnny Bench and Gary Carter on any all-time list knows he's doing something right. And that's now the case for New York Mets catcher Francisco Alvarez after his latest multi-homer game.

The Mets' catcher slugged two home runs while helping to lead his team to a 10-6 win over the San Francisco Giants on Friday night.

With a solo shot in the second inning and then again in the eighth, Alvarez, 24, is now tied with Carter, a Baseball Hall of Famer and member of the Mets' 1986 World Series winning team, for the most multi-homer games as a catcher before turning 25.

And now that he has seven such games to his credit, Alvarez, who has a birthday following the 2026 season in November, is just one away from tying Bench's eight for the record.

Prior to Friday, Alvarez's last multi-homer game came on July 16, when he crushed a pair of long balls against the Phillies as part of a 4-1 win in Philadelphia.

He now has three multi-home games on the season, also blasting two home runs on April 3 in a 10-3 win, ironically also over the Giants.

Francisco Alvarez's best season came in his first full MLB year in 2023

In 320 at-bats across 99 games played, Alvarez has 15 home runs, 36 RBI, 31 runs scored, 75 hits, 12 doubles to his credit. He has a slash line of .234/.319/.413.

Overall in his five-year career, Alvarez owns 63 home runs, 179 RBI, 156 runs and a .231 batting average, a .309 OBP and a .425 slug. His career-high in home runs and RBI came in his first full season, hitting 25 balls out of a ballpark and driving in 63 runs in 123 games in 2023.
