Marlins' Griffin Conine joins father to make history with latest HR

A member of the Miami Marlins made history on Saturday despite the team suffering a 6-5 loss to the Chicago Cubs

When Griffin Conine came up to bat in the bottom of the fifth inning, he did so with Miami trailing 5-2. But he crushed a 2-1 pitch to deep right field.

Griffin Conine joined his dad to make history with his latest HR

Conine's home run was a two-run blast and cut the deficit to just one run at the time. However, his latest home run meant more than just keeping the Marlins in a game they would eventually lose anyway.

Now with exactly 15 home runs on the season and 20 in his three years in Miami, Conine joined his dad, Jeff Connie, a Marlins icon in his own right, as the 10th father-son duo to both hit at least 20 home runs for the same franchise.

Jeff Conine recorded 120 out of his 214 career home runs in 17 seasons with the Marlins. He even exceeded 20 home runs in a season twice with the Marlins, in 1995 and 1996. He hit 25 and then 26 in those seasons, with his 1996 total as his career-high.

There are also some legendary father-son combos on the list

The other father-son duos on the list are Bobby and Barry Bonds (San Francisco Giants), Cecil and Prince Fielder (Detroit Tigers), Dave and Shelley Duncan (Cleveland then Indians), Felipe and Moises Alou (Giants), Gus and Buddy Bell (Cincinnati Reds), Hal and Brian McRae (Kansas City Royals), Ken Griffey Sr. and Ken Griffey Jr. (Reds), Randy and Todd Hundley (Cubs) and Tony and Eduardo Perez (Reds).

Playing in his most games in a season to date with 75, Griffin Conine also has 34 RBI, 55 hits, 35 runs scored and six doubles in 215 at-bats. He's now hitting .256 with a .363 OBP and a .493 slug.
