Chiefs make interesting tight end move with Travis Kelce's future in question

Travis Kelce isn't getting any younger

Kelce is back for his 14th season after considering retirement following the 2025 season. He signed a one-year deal to remain in Kansas City after putting together 76 catches for 851 yards last season.

He's now 36 years old and will turn 37 in October.

Nobody knows exactly how much longer Kelce plans to play. Andy Reid said Friday that there has been communication with Kelce about his future but that he was giving his longtime star some space to make that decision.

That makes it impossible to ignore what Kansas City is doing at the position.

A look beyond Travis Kelce

Odukoya probably isn't the player the Chiefs envision replacing Kelce with whenever that day comes.

But Kansas City doesn't need to know that yet.

They can put him on the practice squad, see how he develops and find out whether his size and athletic ability give him a chance to become something more than a camp body.

The Chiefs have spent years building their offense around Kelce. Eventually, they're going to have to figure out what comes next.

Adding a 6-foot-6 tight end with virtually no NFL production isn't the answer to that problem.

It is, however, another name for Kansas City to evaluate while it still has Kelce around.
