Jameis Winston has found home with Giants after signing two-year extension

After bouncing around the NFL in recent years, it seems that veteran quarterback Jameis Winston has found a home with the New York Giants and is going to remain there for at least a few years.

The Giants signed the veteran quarterback to a two-year contract extension on Sunday, paying him $13 million.

Jameis Winston will be sticking with the Giants a little while longer after contract extension

Winston joined the Giants prior to the 2025 season as part of their quarterback room overhaul, appearing in three games and starting two of them. When he joined the Giants, it was his third different team in three years, having most recently played for both the New Orleans Saints and Cleveland Browns.

He also spent the first five years of his career with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after being selected with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft.

Winston's role with the Giants for now is going to be very clear, as he will be the backup for 2025 first-round pick Jaxson Dart. But even that might still result in him getting some extended playing time.

Dart has demonstrated in the very early stages of his career that he is going to play a fearless, and maybe even reckless, brand of football that is going to leave him open to a lot of hits. Injuries have been a thing he has dealt with already, and that may continue in the future if he does not change his style of play. He's a good, young player with a lot of upside, but the Giants need to be prepared with a capable backup.

That might be the perfect role for Winston. He is a good enough player that he can win a team some games, and he is very capable of putting up big numbers and making plays. But he sometimes gets a little too careless with the football and can be prone to turnovers that limit his team's ceiling when he is being counted on to be the starter.
