Ben Shelton ties career-high ranking with fourth-round US Open win

Ben Shelton moved up four spots in the ATP rankings after a 6-2, 6-3, 6-4 fourth-round victory over Stefanos Tsitsipas at the US Open on Sunday. 

Shelton is fifth in the live ATP Tour rankings, tying his career-high and once again the top-ranked American. Shelton was previously ranked fifth as recently as Nov. 5, 2025.

After losing in three sets to Felix Auger-Aliassime for his third consecutive loss at the 2025 ATP Finals, Shelton fell from fifth to ninth in the rankings. Shelton plays Carlos Alcaraz in the US Open quarterfinals on Tuesday. If Shelton upsets Alcaraz, he would pass Auger-Aliassime to move up to fourth in the ATP rankings and set another career high. 

Shelton's run at the US Open came after he was eliminated in his first match at the Cincinnati Open. Shelton has had an inconsistent season. He has won four titles in 2026 but has five losses in his first match of a tournament this season.

Shelton did not lose a set during his run to the title at the National Bank Open in Montreal. He has 10 wins and three losses in 2026 Grand Slams. That record includes a shocking first-round loss in five sets to qualifier Otto Virtanen at Wimbledon.
