Ohio State cemented as No. 1 team in latest AP Top 25

A closer look at the rankings show how firmly set the Buckeyes are in that top spot, at least for now.

AP voters cement Ohio State as nation's No. 1 team

The complete rankings reveal how many first-place votes each team received. The Buckeyes led the way with 46 votes, with the next-closest team being No. 5 Indiana with eight votes.

Other teams receiving first-place votes include Notre Dame, Texas, Oregon, Miami and LSU.

It's clear from the voting that Ohio State is seen as the clear No. 1 team in the nation. But that spot will be challenged Saturday with the game against No. 4 Texas. 

The game will be played in Austin and serves as a rematch from 2025 in which the Buckeyes won by a 14-7 final score.

An Ohio State win may mean the team receives a unanimous No. 1 ranking next week, while a loss likely vaults the Longhorns into the No. 1 overall spot. The Buckeyes would likely not suffer a major fall either as the two teams will enter the game as top title favorites.

The good news for both teams is that a loss won't derail the season thanks to the expanded College Football Playoff. That reality also leads to top teams scheduling tough non-conference opponents, with fans being the ultimate winners in this scenario.
