What does Michigan have to do to get back in the AP Top 25?

The AP has officially released its much-anticipated AP Top 25 poll after Week 1 and heading into the second week of the college football season. 

One of the biggest surprises of the poll's reveal is that the Michigan Wolverines completely fell out of the Top 25, even though they entered it at No. 16.

Michigan had a messy game against Western Michigan on Saturday. There's no getting around it. This is usually a blowout win for the Wolverines, but the team almost lost, only pulling off a last-second win with a wild Hail Mary play. It was even a controversial call whether to let it have that last play, so this was a drama-filled victory, to say the least.

Because of that showing, and perhaps how Michigan looked on the field, it fell out of the Top 25. So, what does it have to do to get back there?

Michigan needs dominant wins to get back in the AP Top 25

Michigan isn't going to like seeing Ohio State still in the No. 1 spot in the poll this week. But the Buckeyes took care of business, beating Ball State in their first showdown of the season, 56-3.

But Michigan can redeem itself. What it has to do is win, but it's not just that. The Wolverines have to notch statement wins, where it's obvious that they're head-and-shoulders above the competition.

Simply put, the Wolverines have to put up dominant performances every weekend that result in lots of points on the board. The offense has to show up with high-scoring games, and quarterback Bryce Underwood needs to show that he can get this offense cooking.

Michigan also has to be consistent. Winning multiple games in a row should quickly land it back in that Top 25. If those wins are by a large margin, that'll help, too.

The teams Michigan is up against in this poll are already showing their strength with lopsided wins, including the aforementioned Ohio State and the Texas Longhorns, who beat Texas State with a 59-7 win. The competition is tough, and Michigan needs to get tougher.
