Coco Gauff highlights second day of U.S. Open quarterfinals on Wednesday

After five Americans played in the U.S. Open quarterfinals on Tuesday, Coco Gauff will be the lone representative from the United States on Wednesday. Fourth-seeded Gauff plays fifth-seeded Mirra Andreeva in the second quarterfinal on Wednesday. Second-seeded Elena Rybakina plays qualifier Qinwen Zheng in the other women's quarterfinal on Wednesday.

Gauff has not lost a set through her first four matches in the 2026 US Open, while dropping only 29 games. Andreeva won her first three matches at the 2026 U.S. Open in straight sets. In the fourth round, Andreeva defeated Anastasia Potapova 5-7,6-4, 6-3. Gauff has won all five matches against Andreeva.

Wednesday is the third match between Andreeva and Gauff in a Grand Slam. Gauff beat Andreeva 6-7, 6-1, 6-1 in the third round in the 2023 French Open and 6-3, 6-2 in the second round of the 2023 U.S. Open on the way to her first Grand Slam title. Gauff also beat Andreeva in the Madrid Masters in 2025 and the Rome Masters in 2025 and 2026.

Rybakina and Zheng is the first match at Arthur Ashe Stadium on Wednesday, with a scheduled start time of 11:30 a.m. Eastern Daylight Time. Andreeva and Gauff will follow Rybakina and Zheng, with their match not scheduled to start before 12:30 p.m. EDT. The winners have a quick turnaround with the women's semifinals on Thursday.

Elena Rybakina versus Qinwen Zheng

Rybakina enters the quarterfinal against Zheng without losing a set. With a win over Zheng, Rybakina would earn the No. 1 WTA ranking for the first time. Including her final match in qualifying, Zheng won four consecutive three-set matches before beating Iga Swiatek in the fourth round.

Rybakina has won four out of her five matches against Zheng. Wednesday is the second match between Rybakina and Zheng in a Grand Slam. Rybakina won the first meeting against Zheng 7-6, 7-5 in the first round of Wimbledon in 2022. Zheng's only win over Rybakina was in the 2024 WTA Finals.

Wednesday's men's quarterfinals

Karen Khachanov and 28th seed Alexander Blockx are playing for the first time. After winning in straight sets in the first round, Blockx has won his last three matches in four sets. Khachanov has two three-set wins, one in four sets and he beat 13th-seeded Learner Tien in five in the fourth round.

Number one seed Alexander Zverev is scheduled as the first night match on Ashe on Wednesday night against Botic van de Zandschulp in their first meeting. Van de Zandschulp won his first two matches in the 2026 U.S. Open before advancing with consecutive five-set wins in the last two rounds.

Zverev won five-set matches in his first two rounds before winning his last two matches in straight sets. Van de Zandschulp is playing in his second Grand Slam quarterfinal after advancing this far in the 2021 U.S. Open. Zverev is playing in his 19th career Grand Slam quarterfinal and has advanced to the semifinals at each of the first three 2026 Grand Slams.
