Altuve became just the fifth primary second baseman to reach 2,500 hits, joining Robinson Cano, Joe Morgan, Rogers Hornsby and the aforementioned Biggio.

Can Jose Altuve carry Houston into the postseason?

The Astros missed the postseason in 2025 for the first time since 2016, the season before they went on one of the most dominant nine-year runs in MLB history.

Houston entered play on Wednesday with a 2.5-game lead over the Texas Rangers in the American League West. It'll need Altuve, along with MVP front-runner Yordan Alvarez and others, if it hopes to hang on to the division lead and get back to the postseason.
