Team USA sets pair of records in dominant World Cup quarterfinal win

Team USA meant business going into its game against Hungary in the FIBA World Cup. They're going for their fifth straight gold medal, so they couldn't enter this game assuming it would be an easy win.

In the quarterfinals, Team USA put forth a strong performance against Hungary, pulling off a lopsided 108-56 win. In the process, they set two records.

Team USA's 108 points and 31 assists were both records in the World Cup quarterfinals. It wasn't just a win. It was a statement.

Plenty of players had double-digit point totals, according to the Fever's official website, including Napheesa Collier, who had the most with 19 points. Also strong were Rhyne Howard with 15 and Kahleah Copper, Caitlin Clark and Jackie Young with 10 apiece. Angel Reese had nine.

"We talked about just getting better with each game, and I think we did that today, especially with how we shared [the ball]," Howard said after the win, according to ESPN reporter Alexa Philippou. "I think if we continue to play like that and continue to keep everybody on the same page, continue to move the ball, it's going to be really hard to stop us."

There was another record almost broken, too. According to Philippou, the "52-point win margin is the second largest for a quarterfinal in World Cup history."

It's exciting to see these ladies who are usually rivals on the court come together to represent the United States. Now, Team USA will go up against the winner of Spain vs. Australia in the semifinal on Saturday.
