Brewers clinch playoff spot in historic fashion

Now locked into a playoff spot after an impressive win, the Milwaukee Brewers have reached an historic level of dominance in the final weeks of the regular season. 

Just needing a win, the Brewers made sure to leave no doubt while beating the Cincinnati Reds to the tune of 20-0 on Friday night. 

Milwaukee slugged its way to an historic playoff-clinching 20-0 win 

Thanks to four total home runs, hit by Brice Turang, William Contreras, Jake Bauers and Garrett Mitchell, and putting eight runs on the board through the first two innings and eight more in the fifth, Milwaukee poured it on the lowly Reds. 

The way the Brewers won even broke an MLB record for the largest margin of victory on the day a team clinched a playoff spot, surpassing a 17-run win by the 2001 Atlanta Braves and the 1996 New York Yankees.

But ironically, the Brewers' latest 20-run shutout wasn't their first of the season or biggest win either. In fact, the 2026 Brewers now stand as the only team in MLB history to ever record multiple 20 shutout wins of 20 plus runs in a season. Milwaukee beat the Seattle Mariners 22-0 on Aug. 18.
