NASCAR pit crew narrowly escapes horrific incident after pit road crash at Gateway

The first big incident of Saturday's NASCAR O'Reilly Auto Parts Series race at Gateway didn't come on the racetrack. It came on pit road. 

As drivers came down pit lane following the conclusion of Stage 1, a stack-up in the middle of the pack led to several drivers, including Chase contenders in Rajah Caruth and Brandon Jones, having their race cars severely damaged. 

The pit crew of the No. 19 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota and driver Brent Crews were nearly pinned between Crews' car and the spinning vehicles coming towards them and only narrowly avoided what would've been a horrific accident. The CW reported that all crew members on pit road were uninjured.

Drivers in Chase contention caught up in bizarre pit road crash

Crews, along with fellow Chase driver Corey Day, who was pitting in the first pit stall at the end of pit lane, were stuck as those involved in the wreck tried to drive away.
